Photo Diary (Part One): EXERCISE ONE

After they were kind enough to give us a beautiful mix to share with you, we started thinking about Exercise One and how great they are. And then we looked at their blistering tour schedule and thought - how much fun would it be to go on tour with Marco and Ingo? We decided that we needed to find out. And if a photo says a thousand words, we figured it'd only be right to ask them for a visual essay. But let's get a few words in before we kick off (photos after the jump)... So guys, what can you tell us about Exercise One? We are two guys that love to be yelled at and we thought founding a music project would help. We called ourselves 'Exercise One' because we met at an aerobic course in Kreuzberg and our instructor was Ian Curtiss. What does your live setup consist of? Ableton Live on a Macbook, Mopho (analog synth), Korg Electribe, Mixing-desk, 3 midi-controllers with lots of knobs & buttons, and seemingly endless amount of cables, socks & toothbrush. And what are the pros and cons of doing a live performance as opposed to a DJ set? As a live-act, you present your own music. Depending on the feedback you get, that's a pro or a con. Ha ha. We have way more buttons to keep under control. Sometimes this works great and sometimes not. Honestly we can´t DJ so what can we say. Live is what is left... Your debut LP 'In Cars We Rust' features vocals from Argenis Brito - how did that collab come about? We met him through Luciano and when it was time to find a singer, he was our first choice. Luckily he had time and was up for it ! Can you tell us a bit about your tour so far? What have been the highlights/low lights? It's always a highlight to travel, see countries and end up in the craziest places. Of course debuting in Ibiza at Meganite/Privilege was pretty exciting. The release party at Rechenzentrum/Berlin was really special and once stand out gigs in the german leg of the tour was Harry Klein/Munich. This is your first time touring an album – did that make your performances differ from your usual live improvisation-led shows? A little bit because we obviously tried to include as much new material as possible. For example, re-editing 'No News Today' for the live performance adds a new facet to our set. But our approach stayed the same because we  have always tried to keep it evolving. What does the future hold for Exercise One? World domination and a Wagon Repair EP in fall. Before world domination - on to the visuals... Germany tour by the train - getting prepared for the night! BAVARIA! Was a fantastic night at Munich's club no. 1, "Harry Klein".. Peter (Harry Klein Boss), Ingo & Marco
