A Quick Chat With Herve

Recognise the sounds of The Count, Action Man, Voodoo Chilli and Young Lovers? Well, they’re all thanks to one man, or rather, they are the same man; Herve. Passionate about many different styles of dance music, Herve has never restricted himself to one type, instead he’s released a cross section of varying tracks from the pumping house tune ‘Zombies’ to a remix of Lily Allen’s ‘The Fear’ building it around futursistic dubstep flavours, successfully showing off that he’s more than capable switching between and catering for a variety of genres. This open ended style has not only earned him the well deserved title of ‘The UK’s Hottest DJ’ from Rolling Stone magazine but also much love and admiration from his peers worldwide, all eager to collaborate with him or get their track touched by the master remixer. Past collaborations include work with Sinden, Kissy Sell Out, Toddla T and Fatboy Slim to name but a few. This love most definitely spans through from his fans worldwide too, and we’re pretty sure you haven’t been able to resist a smile and throwing your hands in the air on hearing his latest track, the pre-Summer anthem ‘Together,’ forthcoming on his label Cheap Thrills. We caught up with Herve, ahead of his headline set in Room 1 on a week on Friday to find out what the man with oh so many names is up to at the moment... plus he brings word that you can grab exclusive tracks from the man himself at Green label Sound and via the exclusive tab on his facebook profile. You’ve DJed and released music under a variety of aliases over the past couple of years, but where are you at now? Have you been adding to the list of names or are you concentrating on Herve? I’ve really been concentrating on Herve since the end of The Count and Sinden tour; I’m working on my Herve album. Its waaaaaayyyyy over due! I really feel I should have focused on this a while ago so it has been /is great to get on it. I’m working on other bits as well but there will probably be no new names... We’ve heard that you’re very close to finishing your forthcoming solo album, can you tell us more about it? Well I’m kind of waiting on finishing a few vocal tracks, it’s shaping up rather well but I can’t say much more at the moment. We are hoping for a couple of last minute additions. I want it to be big and different sounding! Will we get to hear cuts off it when you pay us a visit on the 15th April? What else can we expect from your set? Yeah there’ll definitely be a few in there. I will have my hype man Boomkid with me on stage now, it just adds another element to the shows, feels live and the crowd really seem to like it and I enjoy getting loads more interaction with the crowd through him. He is crazy. You’re known for mashing up a variety of musical styles in both your productions and in your DJ sets, but do you have a genre du jour at the moment? Not really to be honest, I’m quite into BIG sounding stuff at the moment - musical yet bassy with no restrictions and no more barriers, I’m working on honing the Herve ‘Ghetto Bass’ sound, just trying to generate something that will make you feel like you’re having the time of your life... bass... sex... magic... music. If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing? We’ve heard you’re writing a film... Yeah my brother was helping me but he has just got this massive photography job that spans 3 continents so he’s been planning that as well as just being made interiors editor of swish and swanky new magazine, Port. On top of me trying to finish my album and various other bits it’s on hold. But I think I will get it done early summer, probably without him, sorry Tobias! Oh and I really wanted to be a vet or zoo keeper from a young age!
