Audio: A Duo of Mixes from 2562

Dave Huismans is one of those guys whose production work has a steady rate of astounding you. His last album under the 2562 moniker, ‘Fever,’ may have been built entirely out of samples from old disco records but it still retained every morsel of the rhythmic precision of his previous works, ‘Aerial’ and ‘Unbalance’. ‘Fever’ was the sound of Huismans experimenting, switching up his production methods, perhaps just for the hell of it or maybe to help keep himself tested and interested in the creation process; but alongside the heavy, sub low style of his music as 2562, he’s long been treading a harder, more kick drum centered sound as A Made Up Sound. Whilst AMUS shares some of the same hallmarks as 2562 in terms of sound palette, it allows Huismans' techno penchant to shine through beautifully - like on the latest AMUS release, ‘Take The Plunge’, when sirenated samples are hard panned from side to side whilst the kick drum splays and pounds amongst the swung percussion on the 'Beat Mix'. Long a cohort of Pinch’s Tectonic imprint, his first two 2562 albums were released in collaboration with the label, Huismans’ is making the journey from The Hague to London this Friday night to perform in Room Two to celebrate the launch of Pinch’s FABRICLIVE 61 CD. When we got in touch to ask him if he had anything that was set to pop up on the internet ahead of time he gave us word of not one, but two mixes. One you might have watched live already when the Boiler Room made their third jaunt to Berlin but the other just so happens to be an exclusive premiere of the mix he made for his guest slot on Benji B’s BBC Radio 1 show a few weeks back. Both show just how well rounded and meticulous his DJ sets are – a gret indicator for what you can expect from him come Friday.
