DJ Cameo has been firmly embedded in underground urban music for a number of years. With an education in radio earned through lengthy stints on some of London’s pirate stations like Taste FM and Delight FM and a respect in traditional music circles thanks to his part in the continued success of the Uptown Records shop he’s currently the host of BBC 1Xtra’s Tuesday night UKG show. And whilst the G in his show title might suggest a penchant for garage - one of Cameo’s earliest influences as a DJ - his show blends the borders between that traditional slinky bump and flex and the other strains of the UK underground currently lighting up dancefloors; sounds like grime, funky and to a lesser extent dubstep. This Friday Cameo brings his years of experience and a hotbed of talent to Room Three for his Roadblock session. Bringing with him MC Kaos, his fellow 1Xtra cohort DJ Q, blossoming funky producer Champion, young grime emcee Scrufizzer and garage legend J-Sweet, Cameo’s crafted the kind of well rounded lineup that nurtures the new whilst paying dues to pioneers and those closest to him. He’s also put together a powerful mix that clocks in at over 35 minutes and joins the dots between the heavy hitting styles you can expect to hear on Friday...
