Opening his FABRICLIVE promo mix with a track whose vocal refrain harps on about elevating “this sound”, it’s obvious from the very top that Evan Vischi’s vision of drum & bass music is a little bit different. First picked up by Kasra for a release on Critical’s Modulations offshoot in June of 2010 the Prague based producer has continued to advance his craft releasing on labels like Noisia’s Invisible imprint and collaborating with Rido on the
Prague Connection, an EP which found a welcome home on Goldie’s scene defining Metalheadz.
Having just released the
Gravitron EP on the Leeds based Dispatch Recordings, it’s obviously pretty just that the producer is lined up for their forthcoming Room Three takeover this Friday night but what’s ultimately evident in this 40 minute taster mix is that he plays just how he produces. Consistently uniting rolling elements and trickling percussion with wanton atmospherics and occasionally, these concrete hard, turgid drops, Hybris carves out an incredibly palatable and welcoming soundscape. Allowing a sense of space in drum & bass can sometimes be a hard thing, but he seems able to do it deftly, swooning through tracks whose overriding muscle lies in the construction rather than the brute force of the bass.
