Audio: J Sweet - FABRICLIVE Promo Mix

J Sweet, so named because his given surname is Sweetman, has had a hand in carving out the sound palette of grime for over a decade now. As a producer he’s one of crew partly responsible for the transition of dark garage into grime and his Sweetbeatz label became the main outlet for his recorded work once he’d started ripples with his remixes and collaborations with Huckleberry Finn. Sweet also opened the Mixing Records shop in Croydon, a shop that still stands today, giving him a physical outlet to help spread his sounds to a wider audience. He also owns the Marxmen Dubs label, produces beats for people like JME and releases music on respected labels like Logan Sama’s Earth 616 and N-Type’s Wheel & Deal. Basically, music is Sweet’s hustle and it has been for a long time. He joins us in Room Three on Friday for BBC 1Xtra DJ, Cameo’s Roadblock event which’ll match the energy of the drum & bass feature in the other rooms with an array of emcees like Kozzie, Scrufizzer and Krept & Konan and DJs like Cameo, Robbo Ranx and Stinkahbell. Ahead of the occasion he put together this promo mix that features a lot of exclusive music - if the reoccurring ‘Marxmen’ tag is anything to go by – Joker’s beat for Newham Generals and some of Sweet’s collaborations with Alias.
