It’s no secret that our eclectic underground music scene has over the past couple of years skimmed the edge of commercial success with artists like Disclosure, Breach and Julio Bashmore entering the UK Single Charts. Consequently, it forms a challenging direction for a lot of producers, one that means staying dedicated to the cutting-edge, underground aesthetic we know and love whilst adhering to commercial recognition, satisfying the ears of both party goers and club tastemakers afar. It’s a direction and sound that can be hard to establish, with producers either pushing one too far or not doing enough of the other. However, out of the musical haze comes a small cluster of producers that get it just right. One of these producers is the formidable Matt Relton aka Kidnap Kid.
Closing last year with the accolade iTunes US ‘Best Electronic Song of 2012’ for his debut release
Vehl on musical powerhouse Black Butter Records as well as championing over 100k plays on soundcloud for his track
So Close, not to mention forging turntable-envy for his residency at Space in Ibiza this past summer, Kidnap Kid proves he is one of a rare few. Submerged in seductive 4x4 beats, infectious hooks and vocal-laced anthems, Matt’s records go above and beyond the audio-fuelled stratosphere and into the relentless rotation of revered DJ’s and radio sound waves across the globe.
To give you a better picture of what exactly Kidnap Kid will provide once he ventures down to Farringdon come October 11th, he’s sent us a very special, exclusive mixtape, featuring a veritable who’s-who of monumental artists. Listen, download and enjoy:
