Even if you dabble in online journalism, you’ll probably have heard the term ‘SWAMP81’ being bandied about a little. Well, what it is is a record label. One that‘s helping to fuck up the whole genre denomination thing currently infecting UK dance music by releasing music that’s super hard to classify but is real easy to dance to.
As one of the trio behind DMZ, Loefah, Swamp’s proprietor, has pedigree when it comes to starting something fresh and unique and seeing it through from the early glimpses of an idea to a fully realised product, and or movement. Tracks like Addison Groove’s ‘Footcrab,’ the still unreleased and supposedly anonymous ‘I’m the information...’ tune and the dark and punishing work of Boddika have become global staples in sets of all kinds of musical direction and pace and Loefah’s DJs sets have become as highly revered and monitored as those of high profile new school selectors like Oneman, Ben UFO and Jackmaster. All the more reason then that you should listen to his Rinse FM show from last week ahead of his spot in the Tectonic room on the
1st July.
