Audio: London junglist Decibella reps for WXMB 2

From humble beginnings as an intern at Knowledge Magazine at the age of 15, Decibella has spent her adult life immersed in drum & bass and jungle music. By the age of 21, she was learning to mix, developing an affinity with a genre she describes as a “beautiful mixture of darkness and light and of softness and toughness”. Growing up in London, her tastes were shaped by attending drum & bass raves like One Nation and Innovation, as well as the dubstep-oriented institutions FWD>> and DMZ. She’s been DJing and producing various styles fitting into the so-called “hardcore continuum”, though most of her music has remained unpublished until recently. Earlier on this month she dropped her debut release Outta London on AKO Beatz, which explores the kind of vintage junglist territory you’d expect to hear at parties like Rupture. She’s also tight with Mantra, having exchanged demos through our resident’s EQ50 workshops. Tipped as one of the next generation of artists pushing for reparative structural changes in electronic music, she will be playing at FABRICLIVE this Friday as part of WXMB 2’s platform for supporting womxn and non-binary artists. Her mix for us ahead of the date shows her keen ear for jungle’s roots, paired with a sharp focus on the genre’s future. Download: Decibella FABRICLIVE x WXMB 2 Promo Mix
