Monki has never stuck to one sound. Early on in her career she cut her teeth as part of Rinse FM, playing a weekly radio slot that joined the dots between the UK’s house, bass and grime scenes. While radio has been a constant in Monki’s career through the years, her style has also taken in a broad spectrum of new sounds. These days, on her weekly Radio One show you’ll mostly hear her mixing club-focussed house and techno alongside some of the genre’s most definitive artists.
This year has seen her forming close ties with Louie Vega, a move that’s proven her love of golden-era house dating back to the 90s. As she brings the house pioneer to Farringdon for Monki & Friends this Friday, she sent us a themed mix in advance of the date. Covering classic house via hands-in-the-air disco, this is Monki celebrating the origins of club music.
