One of the things I love about Pinch is how little his attitude has changed over the years. Cold Recordings, the Bristol based producers new and direct-from-the-source record label exists to house a dark arm of music that sits at a recognisably techno tempo and it has a scarily reminiscent modus operandi (in fact it's built on exactly the kind of thinking) that enabled his Tectonic imprint to reach the heights it did during dubstep's explosion. In fact I remember speaking to him about the Cold label's inception around
this time last year, talking at length, off the record, about the traditional distribution mechanisms he wanted to circumvent and some that he wanted to cut out completely. Since then the label has housed work from Elmono, Batu, Ipman and Acre, a slew of up and coming producers who's music more than lives up the label name's icy connotations and their stripped bare transmissions have been delivered in the kind of no fuss, open handed manner that's made
a lot of people pay strict attention.
Pinch's second attempt to define the label's intentions through a mixtape just dropped over on the label's
soundcloud and it's frankly the absolute most perfect tool we could possibly hope for to pre-empt the label's Room Three takeover this Friday where Pinch will be joined by Manchester's young gun Acre, the Welsh wonder Elmono, Bristolian bruiser Batu and Transient.
