Audio: Themba shares a contemporary afro house mix
Themba Nkosi is one of South Africa’s foremost electronic producers. Originally hailing from Johannesburg, he’s part of a scene led by house superstar Black Coffee, a figure who’s also played a pivotal role in Nkosi’s story. Nkosi has spent a big part of the last two years playing alongside Black Coffee across the world and at his Ibiza residency at Hi, and his big-room-friendly club cuts frequently appear in the titan’s record bag. One thing that’s made his tracks stand out from other likeminded afro house artists is his love of dramatic, dancefloor-minded breakdowns, a style that can be heard best on his releases via his Herd label. As well as his close partnership with Black Coffee, recently he’s also been spotted by Pete Tong, and is set to make his Farringdon debut at the UK giant’s All Gone Pete Tong showcase this Friday. Before he joins us, he introduced himself with a mix of contemporary afro house weapons, presenting the warm, slow-burning sound that’s recently taken him to dance music’s centre stage.
