Audio: Todd Edwards shares a bouncy UK garage mix

UK garage may have its roots in England, but one guy from New Jersey was flying the flag for the genre as soon as it started out in the early 90s. Todd Edwards, the US producer currently based in Los Angeles, is one of the sound’s undisputed pioneers, known best for his hallmark sample-based style of vocal chopping. Through a string of highly distinguished albums and singles for the Newark label i! he became one of UK garage’s most established figures, championing the sound from its early 2000s boom, through to periods when it was less fashionable and its more recent resurgence. It’s how he’s collaborated with some of the biggest names in dance music, including forming a close relationship with Daft Punk that would later win him a Grammy award. Now three decades into his career, Edwards is still making garage tracks with a mesmeric twist and showcasing his sound in clubs around the world, including an upcoming appearance with us at Forms this Friday. It’s not often he puts out online mixes, but as it’s almost five years since he played for us, he prepared one for us in advance of his return.
