Blog Takeover: Andrew of Huntley & Palmers Catches up with Rebolledo

Andrew, of Huntley & Palmers notoriety, will be joining us in Room Two this Saturday and alongside us, he’s also an avid appreciator of our other guest, Rebolledo, having previously invited him to be interviewed for and provide a mix for the H&S site. So, when it became clear that the pair were due to share a billing alongside Ivan Smagghe and Saschienne this Saturday Andrew jumped at the chance to catch up with the Pachanga Boy in anticipation of the weekend’s antics. You can read their chat below to find out about the rare solo offerings we can look forward to from Rebolledo, how he splits his time between Paris and his native Mexico and how he’s preparing for his set this Saturday. fabricfirst members have also been lucky enough to have Andrew’s last set here in Farringdon streaming on their exclusive audio section for a week or so now, if you haven’t checked it out yet you can do so by clicking here. Hey Rebo, What's your chat? Since we last spoke, you were gearing up for your own album's release. Were you pleased about how it was received? Yeah! I was really happy with Super Vato and the results… I got very nice feedback (without asking for it, which is something I don´t like to do) from people I respect and like (not just people related to music as well). Also it was a great and funny surprise to see how far it reached, places where I had no idea they would be listening to my stuff, like Japan for example, where it was voted "best album of 2001" of its genre (whatever they think it´s genre is…) on one of their most important music magazines. I usually don´t believe in rankings, charts and stuff, but still it's super nice to know they liked it! A lot has happened since with its release followed up the next year by the Pachanga Boys LP. What else have you been up to? Last year was all about getting the Pachanga Boys album ready and about touring this year the touring continues and new stuff is being cooked, new ideas for Hippie Dance and Remixes from Rebolledo and Pachanga Boys are coming soon. Do you plan to make more solo work? Or are you mainly a Pachanga Boy at the moment? I´m a Pachanga Boy 24/7 but this doesn’t stop me from doing my own stuff. At the moment I´m getting solo stuff ready, I´m thinking about a second album and slowly but surely the ideas are becoming clearer and clearer and the first drafts are already on the making and some even being played. Do you approach each project differently? Or does it all just come together as you collaborate with Aksel? I always find it difficult to try to explain how I work because I really don´t have a real technique or recipe, it always "happens" differently. I enjoy working on both equally and that´s the most important thing I think. For a while you were spending 6 months in Europe, 6 in Mexico, has your DJ'ing schedule changed this ratio? Or are you still managing to avoid the bad weather in Europe by going back to Mexico? I still go to México when I have the chance, which means at least for the winter holidays, but nowadays I spend most of my time in Europe based in Paris. Well, I still like to think I live in Mexico but I travel for work to Europe (even if the traveling takes up more than ten months in a year). For those in the UK who might not have seen you play yet, what can they expect to hear at fabric? Who and what are you into at the moment? It´s hard for me to say what people should expect because every show is different because of so many factors, but I´m pretty sure it will be a fun night because it´s always great when you share a line up with friends and this is always reflected in the sets because of the good mood I think. So, the fact that it´s a night with Saschienne and Ivan tells me already I´m gonna have a good time. About who or what I´m in the moment, you know how much I love to play old records from my collection so in general my style doesn’t change so much. But, I can tell you that lately I've really been enjoying Barnt (and not only because of Geffen) and The Twins (You will get to know about them really soon...) .
