Catching Up With Caspa & His New Video For 'Setting Sun'

Warming up the release of his second album proper, Caspa just released the video for ‘Setting Sun’, the latest single to be taken from the forthcoming Alpha Omega album, due out on the 22nd of this month on his own Dub Police label, which marks a little bit of a change in direction for him. With the album launch slated a week on Friday we wanted to check in with Caspa to try and find out a little bit more about his new material and find out what the thought was behind the album as an artistic expression. So…. what can we expect from your new album? Do you feel like it’s a natural progression for you, musically? How would you say it ‘sounds’? It represents the full spectrum of the sound that I've been pushing for many years now, it's got influences from every kind of music that I myself have been influenced by, whether it be jungle, hip hop or reggae. I think you'll be able to hear the progression, in my production, from my last album to this. I feel it's a lot more rounded and a truer reflection of what I do. The album definitely has a cinematic feel to it, but it’s still Caspa. I know you’ve been traveling a lot… but how long have you been working on the record? Do you feel like your experiences playing different countries have shaped how it came out? Subconsciously I've always been working towards a new album, but I have never really sat down and focused on completing it from start to finish, that's not how I work. I prefer writing stuff over a period of time, as I'm influenced a lot by what I hear and my surroundings. Traveling does inspire my music, but nothing influences me more than London. What made you want to call it ‘Alpha Omega’? What does the title mean to you? Alpha Omega in Latin means from A-Z or from start to finish. That's what the album is, A-Z and everything in between. It was important for me to be diverse sounding; I didn't want it to focus on just one sound or style. It needed to show my ability as a producer and I felt like the title, Alpha Omega, linked in perfectly with this. Obviously you worked with Keith from the Prodigy on War… are you collaborating with anyone else on the album? Working with Keith was amazing and I also collaborated with people like the legend Diane Charlemagne - who I've wanted to work with ever since I heard Goldie's ‘Inner City Life’ as a kid - through to up and coming artists like Dismantle, Ayah Marar, Jagga, Geoff Smith, The PartySquad, Mighty High Coup and Dope D.O.D. It's been a great experience working with so many talented vocalists and producers. I'm excited for everyone to hear the outcome. What can we expect from the album launch, a week on Friday? If It's anything like my last album launch, all I can say is arrive early, it was madness! Caspa launches Alpha Omega in Room One on Friday 19th April.
