Tonight
Jack Beats debut their brand new live show here at their London home. Ahead of the spectacle we caught up with DJ Plus One to shed a little bit of light on the new live show. You can also download ‘Deeper’, part two of the duo’s ‘Dubs For Clubs’ series, over at their
facebook page or via the soundcloud widget below.
So… how is the live show going to work? How will it be different as a live show...?
I think for those familiar with how we work our DJ sets, the new show will look and feel like a natural progression and step up- especially at the beginning performing at club level. The key difference sonically, is that we are working solely with our own music, with a much more involved technical set up. The fundamental difference overall is our new full visual and lighting production, which has been developed in conjunction with Bionic League, who have worked on the Daft Punk and Deadmau5 shows.
What does it mean to you guys to be able to perform live? I mean you guys are both accomplished DJs, who played out for years. Is that method something you looking to progress on from? Are you looking to build on that way of performing?
The new show is an evolution of where we've come from and retaining some familiar performance elements from our DJ sets is very important to us.
You guys are working closely with Pioneer I believe... does that give you access to different/newer technology? What sorts of things are you looking at incorporating?
Working with Pioneer has given us the chance to use a lot of new technology in the past. For this show we're using a few of their products. We each still have a CDJ2000 (for triggering and manipulating elements of the show), and we are routing separate audio outputs from a central Ableton set-up into each of our a DJM800 mixers, which we can each both fully manipluate via Lemur controllers (for these shows we have opted for the iPad version, which has kinda changed the game for us).
How’s the album coming along?
It’s done, finally!
What does it mean to you guys to be able to premiere the live set at fabric?
It's kind of an honour. We've had involvement in the club for many years since it opened, and it’s the home our London residency which is a huge deal for us. For those reasons alone, it’s a comfortable place for us to experiment with new ideas... it’s a huge bonus that it happens to be one of the best clubs in world, run by our friends!
