Crate Diggin': Hypercolour Summer Playlist

Summer is a very, very busy time for the visiting artists here in Farringdon; traditionally, it’s when things really kick off. Ibiza is in full swing and we’re just about to hit Glastonbury, aka the start of UK festival season proper, and this weekend’s Room Two hosts the Hypercolour crew are no exception to this rule hosting their own regular white isle happenings as well as keeping the releases coming on the imprint side of the operation. Then there’s weekly Rinse.FM show and they’ll even be running a stage at Glasto’s festivities around their party obligations with us. It’s all good though, there’s still plenty of time to reflect on the sounds that make the summer season just so good, so we asked Alex Jones and Cedric Maison, the pair of DJ’s at the core of Hypercolour’s operations, to sound out a summer playlist for the blog to get us vibing in view of a seasonally hedonistic weekend to come. STREAM: Hypercolour’s Summer Playlist 1. Art of Tones - Moments in Love Cedric Maison: It’s the ultimate summer chill record. This just makes me want to stop working and go outside, take my top off and sit down in a deck chair. 2. Goldie - Inner City Life Cedric Maison: Classic, reminds me of being a teenager, drinking hooch and chasing girls! 3. Aphex Twin - Heliosphan Cedric Maison: The first time I heard this, I was on a lilo floating in a pool, at a remote villa in Ibiza. I had a moment. 4. Flying Lotus - Fall in Love Cedric Maison: FlyLo homage to Dilla, this is beautiful. I can listen to this on loop all day long. 5. Desire - Under Your Spell Cedric Maison: I have extremely fond memories of the Swedish playboy, Axel Boman playing this at the end of a 5hr boat rave at Dimensions in Croatia last year, this was the last track. Everyone on that boat had a moment to that, they must've! 6. Swayzak - State Of Grace (Silicon Scally Rework) Alex Jones: I used to play this in my Renault Clio - it was summer. 7. Sid Owen - Good Thing Going Alex Jones: A cover of the Reggae Classic by Sugar Minott, performed here by Sid Owen (better known as Ricky from Eastenders), apparently Barbara Windsor persuaded him to try his hand at recording and a full Reggae album was recorded but never released after the single. 8. Shades of Rhythm - Everybody Alex Jones: Imagine me in Oakleys - in summer. 9. Chip E. - Like This Alex Jones: I was 5 when this came out - I think it was summer 10. ILS - Next Level Alex Jones: I played this a lot when I was younger, I remember it being hot.
