London resident Brackles has been quiet for a little while now, release wise. Outside of his regular Rinse FM show, the taller half of the duo behind the Blunted Robots label has reportedly been hard at work on new material and the first music that has emerged from his hard drive, is a 12” slated for release on the label arm of Rinse. It’s a single that harbours two tunes, namely ‘Spider’ and ‘Take Me Home,’ that have been making waves across the airwaves and in clubs alike.
Harnessing the idea of groove, much in the same way Blunted Robot signings Dark Sky did with their recent single for the label, Brackles aims his sights directly on the dancefloor. Sounding more like Brackles than he’s ever done before, both tracks fully up the ante on those saccharine edged riffs that have always been evident in his work. Upping the ante of that sickly sweetness a little with the A-side ‘Spider’ and its sweetened peripheral riffs that flower up before the main drop, it’s a trait in sound that he shares with sparring (and Blunted Robots) partner, Shortstuff, as well as with Nottingham based producers like Geiom, Erra and the producers working with the Wigflex crew – a fact that won’t seem so odd when you realise Brackles lived there for a time while attending university.
With his imminent appearance in Room One on Friday, where he and Shortstuff are set to go back to back ahead of headline performances from 4x4 garage don Todd Edwards and KISS FM’s DJ EZ, it’s a great pleasure for us to be able to preview his forthcoming vinyl only Rinse release. With the dancefloor impact of ‘Spider’ and the rolling glint of ‘Take Me Home,’ Brackles is no doubt setting the scene for a glut of material, and we for one are glad to have him back.
