Feed Your Stereo: Svengalisghost Dirty Blends Mix for Phonograph Corp

L.I.E.S. affiliate, Svengalisghost (aka Marquis Cooper), has only released three records to his name on the NY based imprint, but the dude has a history within the underground US scene that goes way back to the heart of Chicago’s now legendary loft party era of the late 90’s. Fathered by a DJ himself, Cooper didn’t have to look far to be set up with his initial collection of disco records to build his own DJ sound on and he soon moved onto creating his first tape edits and performing himself in this buzzing scene. His production died down to a point, until in recent years when L.I.E.S. boss Ron Morelli was passed some of his demos by a mutual friend and he irked our a new phase for Cooper’s musical ouput. Along with L.I.E.S. as a label, the Chicagoan analogue prophet has seen wide critical appreciation over the 12 months since his first single for the imprint hit the shops, with his ruddily toned energy charged works instantly connecting with the feeling for real raw dance music that is thriving amongst critics and clubbers today. More recently he put together a mix for French publication which is well timed for us to preview some of the sounds you can expect from his visit to Farringdon on the 30th November – grit based grooves with a good healthy smattering of acid.
