The latest techno figure to take a step back from the dance floor and compile a more reflective session of beats for
Oki Ni’s mix series is one of our 12th birthday party guests, Belgium’s own Peter Van Hoesen.
Techno was not his first pursuit in music, beginning his story as part of experimental collective Foton who for the first years of this century were the pinnacle of experimental electronic music and arts in their native country and indeed the music community at large. Then there came techno. Hoesen founded his label Time to Express in 2008 and now as well as firmly establishing himself on the international circuit he is resident at Belgium’s premier techno night, Fuse. Hoesen’s breadth of experience feeds into the intricate structures that make his take on techno beat its way to the next level.
Of the Oki Ni mix he says: "This mix represents my listening habits from the last four or five months. Lately I have been going back to the music I was listening to when growing up - mostly new wave, post-punk, vaguely electronic sounding tracks.
It struck me that, after completing the mix, most of the tracks I selected originate from the UK. I also like to think that this is the first mix in a series that will look back on that specific (late) eighties period that is heavily represented in my record collection. I feel there's at least one other mix coming up. For now, please enjoy."
