Ana Quiroga is releasing her debut album Azabache on 8th September via Houndstooth. As well as a new single, 'Inner City Light' which is out now, Ana has shared details of a launch party at Phonica Records on release day.

Following the first single from the project ‘Wallada’, and the mysterious Where It Begins’, Ana reveals the third single from the project, ‘Inner City Light’. Out now on streaming platforms, ‘Inner City Light’ is Ana’s first track from the project with a distinctly drum and bass tweak. It’s also the first track from the project where Ana’s own illuminating vocals feature.

Azabache is a deeply personal album project from the London-based music composer, producer, and sound designer. Cinematic, experimental, and firmly rooted in place and heritage, Azabache is Ana’s first electronic solo album under the artist’s birth name and a monumental personal work. Predominantly created in Ana's home studio in Hackney, East London, Azabache blends field recordings with digital and analog instruments, to craft a final product that strikes a deliberate balance between the ethereal and organic; a forward-thinking take on futuristic sound and technology.

Mirroring the album’s overarching themes of space, location, and place, today’s single ‘Inner City Light’ is focused on London and the light and darkness that the city breathes in equal measure. “I love singing, it makes me connect with myself and opens a world of expression and communication,” explains Ana, who’s unique vocals shine throughout the track., “In the song, I openly talk about my life in London and the light, shadows, and strange energies of the city.”

Ana illuminates the strange energies omitted from the urban landscapes of the UK capital city, making deliberate reference to drum and bass pioneer Goldie’s timeless 1994 track ‘Inner City Life’, she puts focus on the terrain of UK bass music and its longstanding legacy in London music culture juxtaposing this with themes of magic that surrounds the album; Ana also makes reference to the concept of ‘the Inner Light’ of the Theosophists.

But ’Inner City Light’ also has a brighter, pop touch, through a composition from an old friend of Ana’s Gorka Molero, who also appears on the backing vocals. The track has also been specially mixed in Dolby Atmos by another friend and collaborator of Ana’s, Acid Roots. The Atmos Mix, Ana says, “acquires a different realm where all the sounds take place in a tridimensional space… That surrounding sensation of expanding each element of the song reflects very well those uncanny London energies that I wanted to transmit.”
