In the Bag: Cassy’s latest house bombs

As we’re drawing ever closer towards the end of the year, we’re already prepping ourselves for our first weekend of 2019. We’re set for a family affair in Room One next Saturday, as we invite Cassy to helm the space alongside Robert James, Frenchy and Anna Wall. Having been visiting us regularly since 2006, Cassy has long been a Farringdon favourite, loved as a supreme record selector foremost. Behind the decks, she weaves sultry house with slinky minimal, dub and techno, a style she's recently expressed through her label Kwench Records. Before she joins us next weekend, we asked her to let us know what she’s been playing recently for our latest In the Bag feature. In true Cassy style, she sent back a list of five records venturing into only the deepest of deep house.

My Message – Junior Sanchez [Purveyor Underground]

I love Junior Sanchez as a producer, he’s always been one of my favourites. For me, he creates house music at its best – it’s direct and to the point. Really happy to see him on Demuir’s label Purveyor Underground. This track is a bomb.

The Sturdy Track – Adryiano [Shall Not Fade]

This record uses a sample from an old hip hop track by Arrested Development. It’s such a big track, but when you hear it for the first time and know the sample, you might think it could go wrong. It fits so well in a house record without becoming cheesy – admirable production skills. It’s genius how something so obvious can be really good. Obvious is more sometimes. I played it recently at Culture Box in Copenhagen and it hit it off.

Together – Cinthie [Crystalgrooves]

I love Cinthie’s music. I was checking out her new tracks, found this one and remembered that Art Alfie played it when we were in Stockholm together. This is a real bomb. A big record that deserves to be heard more.

High Ache – Kristin Velvet [Kwench Records]

My label Kwench Records recently hit its first year anniversary. Every track I release on Kwench is something I’d want to play during my sets. I’m so happy with this release and the response it’s had. It’s a stunning house track, a real feel-good record.

Mystery Of Fantasy (G’s Fantasy Mix) – Black Jazz Consortium [Perpetual Sound]

It’s been a while since I’ve given Mr. G a regular blasting, and in this track, I’ve got another gem I’ll have on rotation. He’s in between house and techno, so for me, whichever direction I want to go in, he gets me there. Often if I’m unsure what to play next, it’s the ever-reliable Mr. G I turn to.
