In the Bag: DJ Krust shares five D&B killers

It’s hard to imagine where jungle and drum & bass would be without DJ Krust. The UK artist has been at the forefront of the genre since the early 90s, when he formed a close alliance with the pioneering V Recordings crew. In 1994 he famously co-founded the visionary label Full Cycle alongside Roni Size, laying the foundations for a scene in Bristol that’s still thriving today. While he took a hiatus from music in 2006, his return to the field in 2010 was met with widespread buzz, and with an upcoming project he’s currently prepping to announce, there’s a good chance drum & bass heads will still be talking about his enduring impact on the scene for years to come. Ahead of his Room Two appearance with Size and Mantra at James Lavelle’s curated 20th birthday FABRICLIVE night this Friday, he gave us a sneak glimpse into some of the selections currently packing out his bag.

Rockwell – Buss It [Obsolete Medium]

This track has been in every set this summer, it’s been doing damage on every level. It’s a half-time killer that totally changes the energy of the dance when you drop it. People change the way they move – it’s great to see. It’s a game-changer. The half-time vibe has been creating big changes for a dew years now, and it’s sent a strong signal to the scene that it’s here to stay.

Alix Perez – Trinity [1985 Music]

Off-key is the best way I can describe this one. Dirty nasty drop, I like those tracks that leave people wondering what the fuck is happening. Alix has been making a lot of music that has an otherworldly effect.

Nazca Linez – Inland Empire [ThirtyOne Recordings]

This track is a stomper, it tears through the dance. I really like the simplicity of this track – it does everything you want in a roller, it’s great in the mix and takes the crowd on a journey.

Rockwell & The Upbeats – LEVEL [Obsolete Medium]

This one is tearing down the place every time, it's a lot of fun to play and drives everyone crazy. The bassline is heavy, it’s the type of track that makes you screw up your face.

Need For Mirrors – Sticky [Souped Up]

Great track, it moves in a different way. I’m feeling the different step of this one. Need For Mirrors has been creating problems for other producers for a minute now with his creative output and consistency.
