In the Bag: Halogenix shares five drum & bass bangers

With a diverse and prominent catalogue that spans almost a decade, Halogenix has had a big influence on the drum & bass sound we know today. Continuously developing his craft and style, it’s difficult to predict the direction of any new Halogenix release. His output ranges from deeply soulful to utterly devastating – but you can always bank on top quality and a consensus of approval across the scene. If you’ve caught him DJ recently, you’ll know his sets range just as widely. Halogenix plays an all-stops journey of drum & bass, diving liquid, half-tempo, heavy rollers, and usually more in between. To illustrate his versatility, his latest release sees him flexing weighty 85BPM trap beats under a new alias, Lordel. He’ll be lining up with some of neurofunk’s very best under his better-known guise when he plays Room Two for 10 years of Neosignal this Friday, and before he joins us, he picked out five bangers that have been delivering in a big way in his club sets this year.

Fade Black – Sane feat. Leo Law [Critical]

These guys may be fresh to the scene, but with a track like this, it’s clear they’re on their way to big things… Andy (Shyun) and Nik (Cruk) formed as Fade Black recently and this is one of four offerings from their debut EP on Critical featuring vocals from Leo Law. It’s rare that you can achieve such restraint on a song whilst keeping the energy so high these days. Keep an eye on these guys.

The Upbeats – Altered States [Non Vogue]

So I was actually at Jeremy and Dylan’s studio whilst they were making this and I got a bit excited about it. One of those tunes you can’t wait to play out, the perfect amount of funk and dancefloor vibes. BIG TUNE.

Workforce – Two Words [Must Make Music]

One half of Spectrasoul still has more soul than most, quality rolling liquid from Jack Workforce from his second EP, Late Night Soundtrack Vol.2. The perfect soundtrack for the transition of seasons, and one for the late-night heads.

The Sauce – Mr. Robot [Sofa Sound Bristol]

DLR, Spinback (of Total Science) and Hydro combine to unleash this funky banger. I doubt you’ve been to a rave in the last three months where this hasn’t gone off!

Lordel – Chipset [Deadbeats]

Shameless plug (sorry not sorry) – I just dropped a new EP on Deadbeats under my new alias, Lordel. This is one the heavier cuts of the six off the EP. Big beats, big bass… get to know!
