Tim Sweeney of DFA Records fame, likes to mix it up.
FACT.
Blending ingredients together such as hip hop, funk, dance, disco - to mention a few genres - and some of the newest tracks so freshly pressed, the ink isn’t even dry on the label, he makes the tastiest super combos that get your ears dribbling in appreciation whilst cranking up the anticipation of the next track, this master of many genres will drop.
Interning for someone with an eternal passion and wealth of knowledge for music as Stienski is definitely going to teach you a thing or tons about music but when you club that together with Sweeney’s oh so evident musical genius, it was a almost a foregone conclusion that his future had good things to come. With DFA records on hand to help him launch his career in Djing and production, Sweeney was always sure to earn the respect so many music lovers have for him today.
Between producing and flying around the globe to entertain salivating audience with his upfront selection, he also finds the time to host his internationally renowned radio show,
Beats In Space; which has featured a bevy of outrageous talent like James Murphy & Pat Mahoney, Faze Action, Mike Simonetti, Honey Soundsystem, Master Khan, RUB N TUG, Citizen Kane, The Glimmers, Horse Meat Disco who have all popped by to lay their particular tastes and flavours down for him. We caught up with him to quiz him on a few things:
When you started interning for Steinski did you know that you were going to become the respected producer you are today?
Ha! Uh, I think I was just happy getting tea for a legend like Steinski. I just wanted to learn about music from him and soak that up. I wasn't thinking about much else.
Your radio show BIS has an international following, for those less familiar, how would you sum up the show in ten words?!
10 years of music and mixes from my favourite artists.
Can you tell me a little more about the process of how you pick the guests for your show?
It usually starts from me either hearing a bunch of records by the guest that I really love, or else hearing the person DJing out and just being impressed by that. Then I'll just go about trying to get in contact with them and finding out if they're coming through New York anytime soon. Occasionally, a friend or two will suggest someone to me as well and then I'll go and research off of their recommendation.
Can you give us a little clue as to what you’re going to tease fabric crowd’s ears with this weekend?
Hmm, maybe take a listen to the dj set I did on last week’s radio show, I think that has some stuff on it I'll definitely be playing:
