Brtsh Knights are a three man collective who’ve been firmly creeping their way into our office playlists since they first starting appearing in the types of places we spend our time online. With their first single release on Technicolour Music – an imprint that taps into the expansive network of underground powerhouse Ninja Tune – they’ve already been tipped by a feast of tastemakers like Oneman, Jackmaster and Rob Da Bank. Boasting a charming and refreshing sound that’s built strong with vocal-laced, string peppered seductive synths, the South-London based outfit are purveyors of a more raw and colourful version of today’s mass marketed R&B.
A little forlorn and with a deep lust for nostalgia, their ‘If I Was To’ (below) single is probably the best and most immediate introduction to their particular brand of melodic longing but as part of our 14th birthday celebrations next weekend they’ve also delivered us a mixtape that goes a long way in detailing their influences. Sucking in music from Outkast and Kelly Rowland and spitting it out alongside club heaters from Alex Coulton, Kyle Hall, Tessela and distinguished curveballs from Owiny Sigoma Band and Sophie you start to get a real inkling into where they’ll be pushing their production and performances in the future.
Catch them performing in Room One at the launch party for Oneman’s Solitaire Vol. 2 mix alongside Sasha Go Hard, J Rocc and Lil Silva on Friday 18th October.
