Following along from RvS label head Asadhino’s mix and interview last week, today it’s the turn of his label collaborator, Paul Soul, to introduce himself to us here on the blog. A long time party maker and DJ in the capital, Soul has a huge wealth of experience when it comes to laying down vinyl in RM3 so we’re also privileged to present his exclusively recorded fabric Promo Mix to prove that, yeah, experience does counts in this world we live in. Very much so.

Hey Paul as it's the first time we've had a chat with you on the blog, can you start us off by briefly introducing yourselves to our readers?
Im Paul Soul, I co-run RvS Music with Asadinho. I have been involved in house music since 1991 in various guises over that time. Promoting, playing and producing with releases under the moniker Soulsmith.
You've been on the scene in London since the early 90's - what are the biggest changes you've seen take place in the capital?
I have seen a shift in trends over the years, with the music changing along with technolgies, making music production more accessible. Back in the early 90's, events were a little less organsised, parties were great but the scene was a lot smaller. With the revolutionary changes brought on by the internet and the increasing popularity of dance music as a whole, the scene has opened up. Clubs and sound systems are so much better, designed specifically for giving party-goers a great experience.
Are they for the good or bad in your opinion?
It's for the good of course, parties in London are off the hook now. I'm not one to dwell on 'the good ol days', young people are into the music, and the scene continues to grow, and nights get better too.
With your wide ranging experiences - what do you find our RM3 invites of your approach to DJing there?
When playing out, I always keep it in my head that it's a party. I want to engage with everybody, DJing is a communication process between the performer and everybody, and the rapport built, is what defines a good set in my opinion.
Next time you join us there you'll be repping your project RvS music - can you tell us a bit about your involvement?
I have been running RvS music with Asadinho since it's launch in October last year, before that we ran Reverberations. The label has always been a community project for us, working with amazing talented people both with studio projects as well as our promotions which are continuing to get more and more creative as we go along.
And for this mix - what kind of ideas did you want to put across in it?
I'm happy playing chunky dirty house or techno, as well as playing deep melodic, and soulful, I love good vocals too. I wanted to give this range, and maybe give the listener some idea as to what I'm about and where my sets can go.
