Marking the second Sunday special from team WYS! this Easter this Sunday, the second No Work Monday Bank Holiday takeover, marks a decisive first for one of the core trio’s members. WetYourSelf is really proud to present the debut live show from resident Peter Pixzel and his dear friend August Jakobsen, who perform together as App. We caught up with Peter who told us more about App and generously provided a teaser from the duo's live show exclusively for the fabric Blog...

“App (August & Peter Pixzel) began a year ago, though we have been friends for much longer. We had a session in the studio last spring and were both really happy with what we produced. Working together has been natural and fun, so we have followed the music and flow. Considering that we come from quite different musical backgrounds, we have always connected musically. It’s very easy to work together.
“August has been involved in producing pop and rock music since he was 16, so he’s been happy to have the opportunity to create something fresh and more in line with his electronic passions and persuasions. I myself come from a DJ background; I have been playing since the late 90's, so our meeting of minds is very old school in that sense… the DJ/producer hook up.
“It’s been a really important factor in our work, especially in the beginning. After almost a year together we’ve learned each other’s fields a lot and our roles in the studio aren’t as specific as they were in the beginning. Our differences are strengths, they give us different motivation. I can go on forever with a bass drum or high hat, while August prefers to get lost in the harmonies of a weird baseline or jamming on a Rhodes piano.
“We are firm believers in recording and keeping it as live as possible in the studio. We are using a lot or real instruments. Its way more interesting, We find the typical computer sequencer arranging very limiting, we can’t work that way. Typically we record each track element live, and after 2 or 3 sessions we have a good sketch of where we can take it.
“We have been working hard, and it’s of course fitting that our debut gig will be in Room 1, as my residency there has enriched and fed my musical ear immeasurably and just to give you an idea about what we do here's a 20 min live take we did this weekend at the studio…”
