A Quick Chat With: Copacabannark

We like the syllable pattern of the name Copacabannark; even though we sometimes struggle to say it correctly. But the moniker’s genesis is pretty simple really, once you know the facts. Copacabannark is a duo of French house talents Ark and Concrete resident, Cabanne, and together they ‘ve been producing on labels like Perlon and Minibar for over ten years. Copacabannark's first release was an EP on Perlon back in 2001 and with proud support from venerable Perlon bosses, Zip and Markus Nikolai, their DJ and live sets have been nurtured in the unadulterated space of their most desired 'Get Perlonized' parties that regularly take place in Berlin's Panorama Bar. On Saturday the pair return to the Room One to shape their love for minimalistic house and techno in a live jam session on stage so we reached out and caught up with them for a quick chat… Hi Copacabannark. Can you introduce yourselves for our readers? Copacabannark is a project that we’ve been collaborating on since 2001. Our first release together was Perlon 25. Cabanne & Ark are two separate entities from the Paris underground but you have been producing together on Perlon and Minibar for over ten years. When did you decide to knock heads and create something special in the live performance? The first idea of our collaboration was actually an idea of Zip, who is the boss of Perlon. We were already playing live alone, together or even with other musicians close to us. How are you looking forward to returning to the Room One stage on Saturday? It's a great pleasure to be back there as Copacabannark, we both played live already in Room One, so surely it's going to be an exciting live set. How much do you enjoy the Get Perlonized parties at Panorama Bar, in Berlin? What are some of your most memorable nights playing there? It's always one of our favorite place to DJ or perform live. It's always a blast! Maybe one of the most crazy nights we had there was this garden party in the first Ostgut/Panormama bar in 2002. Artists were playing live and DJing for more than 36 hours in a row. It was unreal! Tell us about the upcoming Copacabannark Minididc EP (Ltd Special 10 inch)? These are two tracks recorded live out of a session in Cabanne studio, tests pressing arrived last week and we can't wait for the record to be out. What else do you have in the pipeline that we should know about? We're currently thinking about releasing more stuff from our live sets. The fact that our live sets are improvised yields some really improbable pieces and sometimes the result is still surprising us. Copacabannark photo by: Maxime Chermat
