Hip-hop has always been embedded in France’s culture, and this was no different for the Dujon-born artist Guillaume Duchastel De Montrouge. One of his formative inspirations was the 1983 hip-hop film Wild Style, a name he later borrowed to start mixing records as DJ W!LD.
Hip-hop was the first grounding of De Montrouge’s musical world, but French heroes like Laurent Garnier helped his discovery of electronic sounds. Once he moved to Paris, he’d started mixing records at some of the city’s key late night spots. By the late 90s his DJ career had taken him beyond the French capital, playing house and techno in legendary clubs like Twilo and Fuse.
These days De Montrouge is probably best-known for his music on 20/20 Vision, as well as his ties to the iconic Ibiza brands Circoloco and Cocoon. He’s also a frequent guest with us at WetYourSelf!, where we’ve had him spin throughout the last few years. With his next Sunday night appearance with us happening this weekend, he sent over a mix blending jazzy and Chicago house sounds in anticipation.
