Audio: Hear Latmun’s lively house session

Our first meeting with Joe Bradley (aka Latmun) was at the first full club Kaluki takeover last September, where he played a high-energy head-to-head with Detlef in Room Two. This was their debut appearance at the disco, and the synergy they found together made the night go well and truly off. A key figure alongside Detlef in the UK’s thriving house scene, the young Nottingham-based artist Latmun has been tipped for his brand of lively house in a short timeframe, building close ties to high-spirited parties like Kaluki and Stealth. Jamie Jones has also been an avid supporter of his, inviting him to join him for Paradise at DC-10 and signing his music for Hot Creations. Latmun returns with Kaluki at Forms on 2nd February, so we got in touch with him for a mix and interview. He showcased the kind of party-led fare we can expect from him at Forms, before discussing his forthcoming plans. Download: Latmun Forms Promo Mix How and where was the mix recorded? The mix was recorded while aboard the Holy Ship in the USA, where I’d just returned from playing. It wasn’t one of my sets from the boat, but it was a good time to record it between the parties as there was lots to be inspired by... beautiful weather, lots of great music and amazing views. I really concentrated on making this mix an interesting journey through various styles and moods. From where did you source most of the records? This is a mix of old and new stuff, not just current tracks. I love putting in secret gems from years gone by that people may not know today. Some of the records were re-discovered by digging deep into my collection – I often do that to bring a few into my sets each week. There’s also new stuff I found digging through Beatport – it’s a great platform to discover music when you search below the surface levels. Other bits are taken from what I’m regularly playing in my DJ sets at the moment. How did you first connect with the Kaluki crew? The very first meeting was almost certainly during a party somewhere! I shared a few line-ups with Spenny (Pirate Copy) so we became friends through that, and I know the chief Nick Yates through playing at DC-10 over the summer for Paradise. Last year you put out a number of releases for the first time, but it was also the most gigs you’ve ever played in a year. How have you balanced your time between the two? It’s something I’m still learning! It’s really hard to find the balance, but from doing lots of shows comes lots of inspiration. You get to hear how other DJs are playing, how things sound on different sound systems, new cultures, or even just hearing an unknown track on foreign radio! You have to squeeze in as much time as possible to utilise all these ideas. But there have been too many occasions where I’m still in the studio writing music until the last minute before I have to leave for my flight, then end up running through the airport being the last person to board! What plans do you have coming up in 2018? I plan to release more music, and it would be amazing to tick off some more of my dream labels. I have lots of tracks I’m sitting on right now, so I’m excited to put some out over the next few months. I have some really exciting announcements but I’m not allowed to say this early on into the year. Keep an eye on my socials, all will be revealed soon…
