Pola & Bryson make drum & bass with a musical sensibility. While that might sound like a phrase many producers would use to describe their records, for this duo it’s truer than most. Long before discovering electronic music, the pair were both classically trained on trumpet, piano and drums, something you’ll clearly hear through their grasp on composition and melody. They first started producing together after meeting in London in 2012, releasing through their label Soulvent Records. This year the imprint celebrates its fifth birthday, and though the duo continue to sign and champion D&B’s future stars, nowadays their own records can be found on Friction’s ever-consistent label, Shogun Audio. Ahead of their Room Three takeover in celebration of Soulvent’s fifth anniversary next weekend, they sent us a mix displaying their sound best. Spanning across 90 minutes of glistening rollers, this is the sensitive side of drum & bass in its purest form.
