August means a few things here in London: BBQs on any piece of green park, the notion of an actual, tangible summer, Notting Hill carnival and, yes, hitting hand in hand with that, the annual Playaz Carnival Special. Whenever DJ Hype and Pascal’s Playaz brand takes over the full club they bring a clear-cut kind of enthusiasm and energy for drum & bass music that’s hard to find anywhere else and this year is no exception. With new blood and old aligning next to each other on the lineup it's a great opportunity to step back, take stock and realise how deep and alive the d&b scene here in London is. With that in mind we asked Playaz signing, Tyke, to put together a mixtape to show us what’s currently kitting out of his DJ sets. As an artist who’s worked his way up with 'moral guidance' from Twisted Individual whilst getting tips of the proverbial cap from scene lynchpins like Andy C (who put Tyke’s ‘Music Makers’ collaboration with Recipe on his Nightlife 5 mix), it’s no wonder that Tyke’s take on d&b spans numerous styles and moods.
