Crate Diggin’: Franky Rizardo selects his favourite 90s house gems

Franky Rizardo is one of Holland’s foremost house artists. Over the last decade he’s carved out a distinctive style of 4/4 tailored towards the dancefloor, most recently through labels like Saved and Rejected. It’s the same sound he pushes at his regular FLOW parties, where he takes centre stage alongside a crew of his own invited house heavyweights. As he joins us at Forms this Friday, he picked out some of the classic 90s cuts that still inspire his hallmark sound today.

The Mole People – Break Night [Strictly Rhythm]

This is probably one of my favourite records on Strictly Rhythm. I’ve always been a big fan of the label and all of the early tracks they put out! I also had the pleasure to recently remix this for the label – expect to hear more soon…

Joey Beltram – Energy Flash [R&S]

I can’t remember when I first heard this, but wow – what an absolute weapon. R&S put out so many great records in the 90s.

Kerri Chandler – Atmospheric Beats [Ibadan]

I think I’d be doing a disservice if I didn’t add at least one classic Kerri track into this list. I’ve got a lot of favourites from him, but this one is my top.

Dreamatic – Audio Trip [DFC]

Italo house at its finest! Perfect for transitions into peak time!

Moodymann – I Can’t Kick This Feeling When It Hits [Planet E]

I don’t know what it is about Detroit, but it produces a lot of timeless records. This is a special one for me – very intricate record. A classic!

Ron Trent – Magic Woman [Cajual]

Cajual has been putting out the heat for a long time, this is no exception.

Kappa – Spaced Out [RED]

There were some amazing tech records coming out of the Netherlands during the 90s, and this is no exception. Huge tune!

Housey Doingz – Curly Wurly [Wiggle]

Gritty, grimey basement tech to get everyone moving.

Underground Resistance – Nation 2 Nation [Underground Resistance]

I couldn’t do a 90s list without including something from UR. Amazing record from an amazing album.
