Introducing...tINI

Last week we announced some considerably large news in that Loco Dice and his Desolat bandwagon will be wheeling into the thick of Room One later this month. It's a solid time for the label who are celebrating five years of existence and Berlin member tINI down on the November 17th bill, next to Guti, Hector and Dice himself. Not only is she set to join in the mammoth celebration but tINI also holds the added honour of being Desolat's longest crew member besides co-founder Martin Buttrich, rendering herself as one hell of a backbone for the label from when she was first snapped up by Loco Dice in 2008 for her unrelenting innovation to work a crowd in DJ sets that consummate a mix of warmth of tone and intricate minimal house rhythms. When it comes to tINI’s production look to the label’s ongoing vinyl series - 'Desolat X Sampler' and the inimitable debut artist album, 'Tessa'- tINI's story is one that follows in the footsteps of Dusseldorf boss Dice but is still very much her own success. And so for that reason we asked her to tell us how it really is from her impending move to NYC, a second artist album on the way and her appearance on the '5 Years Of Desolat' compilation coming soon. We've also dug out tINI's worthy Resident Advisor podcast from August to remind us of how good a DJ she really is... Hi tINI - good to meet you. Can you introduce yourself for our readers? My name is tINI and I love to write it that way and not Tini because I think it looks nicer. I am a DJ and producer, traveling the world presenting my definition of good music and fun. At the end of October I will move to New York, a pretty exciting and big step for me. I'm already started working on my 2nd album, I think there is a lot of inspiration waiting for me over there. Who would you sight as your key influences leading you to become the artist you are today? I am always aware of what's going on around me. Not only in a musical way, I love to speak to different people, sometimes even a short talk to an old man from Honduras on the plane can be inspiring and creating new ways of thinking. I need inspiration and I am not afraid to get influenced by good or bad things around me. How did you first hook up with the Desolat crew? I met Dice a very very long time ago, he became aware of my talent, we became friends, he produced an album, he wanted me to join the tour, I said yes, we became a team. I released my first Desolar track, and it goes on and on and on. Here we are now. I'm the longest Desolat crew member besides Martin Buttrich. Part of the family. How much fun do Desolat have both on and away from the decks? If you had to pick a standout memory of your time together what would it be? Well, if I just think back to the past two weekends, where I spent each night or day of the weekend with one member of the crew, or even all and we always manage to have a lot of fun! Just to name one, Guti became a close friend during the years and although he is trouble, in a good way, we always find something to laugh about. We all are having fun in the club, behind the decks and I think if you see us once, you know its safe to say. YES. What's it like having Loco Dice as a mentor? What's the best piece of music advice he's given you? I think he is the best mentor to have out there, he went through the whole process and I pretty much follow his steps. He started as Timo Maas's tour manager and I guess he learned a lot during that time, then he grew and grew as an artist, from DC10 to being a label boss with a big crew now, producing big shows like "Desolat Experience" around the globe. I learned a lot already and I am willing to learn more. I am moving to NYC now to work on my 2nd album, similar story to him. Best advice? "Don't listen to others and do your own thing." How are you feeling about the Desolat takeover on November 17th? For those who haven't had the experience of it yet; how would you describe the atmosphere and energy of what's coming for them? The Desolat experience is next level production. It's not only about the music, the whole atmosphere that will be created, visuals and other surprises. Each member of the crew presents his (or her) music and still we represent Desolat as a crew. It's been a year since you released your debut artist album for Desolat. How do you reflect on your first long player and in what ways will it always hold a special place for you? As each track has a big meaning for me and played an important part in my life, it's like looking at a photo book, or reading my diary. I still love each single track of "Tessa" and it will always be special for me, my first born. What's next from you that we should be looking out for? tINI in NYC - I'll move over to the states, working on my next album. And of course other releases in the pipe line. Next will be a track on the "5 Years of Desolat" compilation.
