Tour Diary: M.A.N.D.Y. In Africa & Mexico

Back in May, Get Physical's somatic head honchos M.A.N.D.Y. jetted out onto a ten date and two week-long tour across Mexico and Africa. Quite the transition compared to the normal string of tour dates, the experience brought a lot more than a whirlwind of techno extravagance and all night long parties. From soaking in the sun and unwinding in Mexican fishing villages to an enlightening adventure across Africa, the tour for both Philipp Jung and Patrick Bodmer was a mecca of inspiration. Looking back and reflecting on their travels, the seminal selectors have written a short diary, selecting a few moments to share with us all before they play in Room One on the 26th July... We started the tour in Mexico, one of our favourite countries. Our first gig there was 10 years ago at a Kraftwerk after party. The Mexicans were always our hermanosy hermanas but there's still lots to explore there.  This billboard is from a party in Playa del Carmen, one of our favourite spots. There was a great party in Mexico City with Carl, who was also called DF for Distrito Federal. His wife, Hagi is our agent so we cross paths regularly and always have a good family time. The city has changed so much over the last few years but we love it dearly.  There are so many environmental and health conscious people over there. For all DJs, the big challenge on tour is what to do with your days in between the weekends, so during the Mexico tour we decided to go to Mahahual, a little fisher village in the middle of nowhere. The perfect place to disconnect and do absolutely nothing, but eat, fish, read and sleep. It's also a great time to learn something new, which is not as hard as everyone says. Our little Africa tour was very interesting. We love to go to places where we have never been before and where there is no real scene yet as it’s so refreshing for us to meetnew people and get to know the culture. It's the best inspiration for us. The following pictures are from Kenya, on some random markets outside of Nairobi... To experience the wild nature was very relaxing and important to us. The big cities are kinda the same in terms of the stores, restaurants, clubs etc, but leaving for the countryside was something completely different. Talking to our local guides about their way of living was quite shocking as well as interesting. You hear about these stories in book or National Geographic, but getting told this face to face is a real experience. The hospitality we experienced in South Africa and Kenya was beyond great, and being able to meet and exchange with the local producers, DJs and promoters is absolutely priceless. In Kenya though,, it is kinda tricky at times due to the political situation so you always need some strong people next to you to explain, translate and protect you. Here we are strolling around in the local neighbourhoods and letting the vibe take over, sometimes not even talking and just watching the world go by. There's so much to learn if you are curious enough. This picture looks like  the cables in our studio. Highly professional! We had to take this picture of course! We finished the tour at the Sonar Festival in Barcelona with a Get Physical vs Flying Circus party which was wonderful. We played as MANFLY, which is us and our lovely Audioflys together - an amazing time guaranteed.
