Audio: Listen to Jan Blomqvist’s shiny house mix

If you’ve kept track of Jan Blomqvist in any way since 2012, there’s a very good chance you’ve seen this clip of him performing his melodic house hit Something Says live from Weekend Club, but his history with the Berlin venue goes further than viral YouTube clips. Blomqvist had an early exposure to Berlin’s famously wild nightlife scene working as a bartender at Weekend, and would often cut loose by heading out to places like Bar25 at the end of his shifts. Inspired by his hometown’s endless party offerings, he began writing his own music, honing a sound that merged minimalist club beats with soaring pop-like melodies. Beyond that classic for Stil Vor Talent, Blomqvist has showcased this emotive style on two albums and a string of singles to date, most of which are signed to the various offshoots of Dutch powerhouse Armada. He fronts his own live band as vocalist and electronic craftsman, but when he debuts with us at Forms next weekend, he’ll be showing us his sound through a solo performance. As a precursor for the night he put together a mix of tracks he’s been feeling recently, which is packed with all the melody-heavy shiny house stuff we’ve come to expect from Blomqvist.
