IWD24 - International Women's Day 2024 podcast series

Back for International Women's Day 2024 is a brand new 14 mix series featuring some of the scene's most formidable, established and emerging talent. Daria Kolosova, DJ Gigola, Free Zing, Jaguar, Jay Carder, KT, Lu.Re, mi-el, Nala Brown, Naone, Ogazón, PARAMIDA, Tiffany Calver & Yazzus share mixes for the project that celebrates pioneering female artists working, playing and hustling in the scene today.

IWD is a day to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination & take action to drive gender equality. There is no music industry without women & we want to celebrate this through the medium of the thing we know & love best…music.

The series scopes a range of genres from artists specialising in techno, house, bass and beyond. Some are specially recorded, and some are previously recorded fabric club sets.

All mixes are available to stream via our Soundcloud.

Daria Kolosova

The experienced Ukrainian artist Daria Kolosova joins us for this years IWD mix series with 75mins of kinetic techno, electro & trance.

"Putting together this mix for fabric in celebration of IWD was absolutely a pleasure! I pictured myself playing on that powerful Room 1 soundsystem and included all of my current favourites. I wanted it to be energetic and sexy, blending recent high-intensity releases with 2000s tribal-techno Discogs finds. I genuinely hope this mix can bring you joy wherever you listen and please, crank up the volume! Happy International Women's Day ❤️"

DJ Gigola

DJ Gigola's signature hybrid sound blends the boundaries between dance & pop music, making her one of the most exciting DJs to experience live. For this mix, we’re treated non-stop percussive grooves & harmonic melodies.

"My mix starts with a scene from the movie Cement Garden and speaks for itself. I made a special mix showcasing FLINTA talent in the music industry (90% of the mix is by FLINTA producers) and the other (2 tracks) are referencing either female icons or female sexuality."

Free Zing

Madrid born, London based DJ & producer Free Zing serves up a selection of 80’s, 90’s & early 2000’s inspired electro grooves & wonky techno. Expect a range of eclectic beats from start to finish.

"My party days in London started in EC1 9 years ago. My first goosebumps with electronic music took place in Room 1. fabric, to me and to many of us, is the institution that represents the core of my relationship with the love of my life: music. Records that I would love to hear in Room 1 have a special place in my collection since it started."

Jaguar

BBC Radio 1 DJ & host Jaguar is no stranger to putting together a well-selected mix. The East London-based DJ delivers her distinctive & diverse selections for International Women's Day.

"I LOVED putting this mix together. It represents my new sound: bass-driven cute club music for the hunnies. I injected all my energy into this, it's fast, camp, and freely divulges between genres. This is what you can expect to hear at a Jaguar set or at a UTOPIA event. I'm so proud to fly the flag for women and non-binary people in dance music and I've cherry-picked my faves for you in this mix. Look out for Leikei47, Lu.re, COBRAH, OPPIDAN, Kim Petras, UNIQU3, Lau.ra, Juicy Romance, TSHA, plus some unreleased exclusives forthcoming on my label UTOPIA this year. ENJOY and play this LOUD!! Happy IWD! x"

Jay Carder

Jay Carder delivers her take on UK techno with a hefty dose of bass, breaks & 4/4. Expect a concoction of percussive heavy leftfield & lighter psychedelic sounds.

"This mix starts with five tracks from five women that I really look up to and whose music is always an essential part of my selections. I feel it sets the energy perfectly for the rest of the hour; powerful, strong and beautifully unpredictable. The mix as a whole demonstrates the darker side of my sound; I imagined deep rollers reverberating off the walls of fabric; sweaty bodies deep in the dance occasionally coming up for air. Obscure female voices pepper the mix – a reminder of the club’s shared liminal space. My DJ sets are always based around energy; drums, techno rollers and downright weird and wonderful sounds to keep you moving through the dance. The mix closes out in a big crescendo followed by two tracks from myself; a glitchy 160 roller (out today on Wisdom Teeth!) and a triumphantly trippy remix by Tom Jarmey of my track ‘Reverse Disorder’."

KT

Space Dust resident KT delivers a mix full of rare 90’s house, electro, trance, garage, breaks & everything in between. This well-respected selector is no stranger to playing undiscovered gems.

"It’s an honour to release my first mix in 12 months for one of the world’s best institutions and my favourite club, fabric. Thank you for the invitation, it means the world to be amongst and champion incredibly talented women for the IWD podcast series. The mix is inspired by my 2024 Latin America tour and features records I’ve had great pleasure playing in Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico. Lastly, thanks to the amazing team at Quito’s TDF Studio for giving me the space to record."

Lu.Re

Recorded live from Room 1 in fabric on 22/12/23.

Multi-talented Lu.Re mixes it up with an amazing set taken from her Room 1 opening set back in December with our Rinse FM Christmas collab.

"I’m feeling very honoured to be playing again at fabric full stop, but even more so on this lineup of world-class female DJs for International Women’s Day. Massive credit to fabric for putting this together, it’s going to be huge."

mi-el

Rising star mi-el has made waves in the scene with her unique tempo-shifting, cross-genre approach to her sets. This mix is filled with a range of raw breaks, percussive rhythms & exploratory choral soundscapes.

"Happy IWD to all women, especially the black, trans, queer and indigenous women around the world."

Nala Brown

One of the founding members of all-female collective, AMPFEMININE, Nala Brown is committed to championing diversity within the Dutch music scene. Spend one hour in the company of one of the most in-demand selectors.

"It's been so encouraging to see (black) female artists thriving who have been in the game way longer than me. They keep me motivated and I hope I'll end up being a motivation to others too."

Naone

Hailing from Seoul, South Korea, Naone is known for her love of 90s-influenced sounds. For this mix, we’re treated to 60 minutes of acid-tinged trance and techno vibes.

"I am forever the most inspired by strong women around me. Let’s keep inspiring, and empowering each other! Happy International Women’s Day!"

Ogazón

A true pioneer of the after-hours scene, Ogazón blends together a selection of hedonistic bliss and pure dancefloor pleasure in a method that has become synonymous with her style.

"I am honoured to contribute to fabric’s mix series on World Women's Day, highlighting that while today is special, the celebration of women's achievements and contributions should be embraced every single day."

PARAMIDA

Love On The Rocks founder and Ostgut Ton artist, PARAMIDA, serves up an hour of blissful sounds that are reminiscent of her residency at Panorama Bar.

"There is no concept behind this mix. My DJ sets and mixes are always an expression of my emotions. This time I went a bit mental. What you hear is what you get. Happy IWD. The future is ours."

Tiffany Calver

The winner of Music Week’s ‘Women in Music - Rising Star’ award in 2019 - and what a rise it’s been! It seems fitting that Tiffany Calver jumped on the IWD24 fabric podcast series with an energy-packed selection.

"It’s fantastic to be a part of this fabric podcast series to celebrate International Women’s Day. There are no excuses to hide behind in 2024, line-ups need more women and not just for equality or a box tick, but because we’re f*cking fab at our job. A special shout out goes to the other female artists included in this podcast it's great to see the next gen of great female talent occupying the electronic music space."
