NEWSFLASH: 10 Years of Ricardo Villalobos at fabric

Ricardo Villalobos’ history is attached to many places that are now some of electronic music’s most cherished and acclaimed institutions. From the Robert Johnson in Frankfurt to labels like Playhouse and Perlon; they’ve all been of utmost significance in presenting the DJing style and production talent of Ricardo Villalobos. We’re also privileged to lay claim to part of that heritage; it being ten years ago this November that he first came to Farringdon to play for us. The road has marked along the way by extended morning sessions, one of the most revered instalments in our CD series in fabric 36, and what is almost an on-going collaboration between our in house sound engineers and the Martin Audio soundsystem that works so well as a vessel for the oft mooted details in Villalobos’ production. Starting this November we will be hosting a series of four events over the next twelve months in celebration of this decade landmark. We’ll be curating lineups alongside Ricardo to include those people who have inspired him and a selection of those who he holds personal esteem for. The first event will take place on Saturday 24th November and stars someone who has arguably had the largest influence on the path of Villalobos to date, Heiko M/S/O. Being a prominent figure on the Frankfurt scene as Ricardo was cutting his teeth on the underground and illegal party network he’s cited as a real inspiration but Heiko is also the founder of Playhouse, the label that released Ricardo’s first full length project Alcachofa back in 2003. And following on from their silence breaking set back in April at Panorama Bar - and a bit of coercion from our musical director Craig Richards - Tobias Freund and Martin Schopf have reformed their pop styled electronic project, Sieg Über Die Sonne, after acheiving recognition for their solo projects as Tobias and Dandy Jack. It’s not the first time they have shared Room One with Villalobos and undoubtedly you will have heard the output Rick Y Martin, Shopf’s collaborations with his fellow native Chilean. Looking forward to the new school of artists, Margaret Dygas also appears on the bill. As well as being label mate to Villalobos on Perlon, the Polish born producer shares Ricardo’s affinity for spatial awareness in her percussive productions and has been a regular fixture here in Farringdon for years, a title she shares with our resident Craig Richards, whose back to back sets with Ricardo are often the highlights of the Chilean’s visits... “Ricardo is an undeniable force,” Richards laments; “a true soul, a loose and an exciting human who always brings a unique and inspiring take on this world we call dance music.” “Modern day life has never been more full of information,” he continues. “Everyone seems to know everything but its how we use the information that counts. Ricardo presents his interpretation of techno with personality, innocence and playfulness. Over a ten year period from the first time I invited him to London, he has been a constant inspiration; a special man who I am happy to call my friend.” Across the rest of the venue, Norman Nodge will be in Room Two launching his vastly critically acclaimed Berghain 6 mix release with resident Terry Francis, Marcel Fengler and CTRLS (LIVE) then in Room Three lick my deck have their own landmark to celebrate with their 5th birthday with Dan Andrei, Bruno Pronsato (LIVE) and label founder Shaun Soomro.
