Now & Then - Dusky

We ask our favourite artists to look into the past, present and future of their personal electronic music landscapes, in just 3 tracks.

UK duo Dusky have been pushing their distinct hybrid, classic, and textural sound within electronic music for over a decade now. A Dusky tune is never short of a deliciously identifiable influence, but always unarguably original. Before they return to fabric this month (Friday 22nd April) for an extended set, it felt only right to touch base with Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman to dive into the past, present and future of the music that makes them tick.

Get lost in 3 tunes hand-selected by the 17 Steps founders. An apt selection reflecting the melting pot of sounds you’ll find at the club this April.

The Past.

T Williams ft. Terri Walker - Heartbeat (Paul Woolford Rewurq)

This was a big track amongst those who knew. It came out just before our first Dusky music was released and was a big influence on some of our early singles.

The Present.

Cromby - Loving

This track has got it all, an addictive groove, deliciously wonky synth stabs, some big build ups, and it’s full of tasteful details made for the dancefloor. It’s been a highlight of our recent DJ sets.

The Future.

Dusky - Stick By This (Maruwa Remix)

We’ve been playing Maruwa’s music in our sets regularly since she first appeared on Steel City Dance Discs back in 2019 so we were excited to have her involved with this remix. To us much of her music really captures the essence of UK acid house. It’s got a tasteful proggy feel to it and heavy use of breaks that always work well for us in the clubs.

Dusky play an extended set on 22nd April alongside Maruwa, Cinthie, Virginia, Anna Wall, Jordan Vickors & more. Tickets below and here.
