Back 2 Back: Lee Rands & Chris Maran of MuMu

If muMU’s last birthday party was anything to go by we are in for quite an exceptional occurrence in Room Three next Saturday. For their 5th birthday Room Three takeover the crew have invited down Praslea, Lee Rands, Chris Maran and Scott Grant to steer the musical direction in a typically quality MuMU style. As something that extraq little bit special this time round Lee Rands and Chris Maran are set to partner up behind the decks and in anticipation of that B2B they’ve recorded us this exclusive promo mix. To accompany the music we’ve picked out a few questions for the guys to ask each other making a back to back interview to accompany the audio. Hi, I'm feeling very hot and sweaty thanks to the UK finally having a hot summer (not complaining though!), a little tipsy from the Drambuie but very happy with the overall outcome of the podcast. The feelings mutual! So tell us what's going on in the musical world of Rands... I have been mainly working hard on production which is going well, hopefully a few things will see the light of day sometime after the summer and we've also got our Marands project which is looking promising. With mUmU we started our 5 year tour a few weeks ago. We already had the Manchester leg which was great and now we're looking forward to the London, Liverpool and Glasgow gigs. Apart from that I've just been enjoying digging deep for records as usual. That's what I like to hear! Has there been a standout record that you've bought recently? Umm, I would have to say Voigtmann's - Anticlockwise EP on Assemble music. Both tracks and the remix are amazing... we actually stuck it on the mix. Other than records what are your other pleasures in life? I would have to say dub reggae, Hawaiian shirts and curry goat in no particular order . Niceeee Yea man, I like your style! On the subject of food I know that your not too bad in the kitchen yourself. In fact, I've had the pleasure of trying a couple of your dishes. What would you say your specialities are? I must admit i do make a mean carbonara & seafood paella . I'll bring one in my lunch box on the 3rd to eat before we play if you like?! Lee interviews Chris Hi mate very much enjoyed recording the mix. Seeing as we've stuck one of your new tracks on i thought you should shed some light on it for us? Same here man, thanks for sticking it on! I finished it about a month ago and it's been signed to Fuse London but I'm currently working on another track to complete the EP before it gets released. It shouldn't be too long now. Good to hear!! So what's been floating your boat lately and getting your creative juices flowing? Drambuie aside, I'd have to say listening to my favourite albums in the sun and getting amongst it at Glastonbury festival. It's always refreshing to hear different styles of music and I find that I feel far more inspired when I get back in the studio. Bonobo - Black Sands is probably the most listened to album recently, the quality of the production is amazing and it's a nice alternative to house music. The dub reggae stage at Glastonbury definitely rubbed me up the right way too. So have you got any other inspiring trips lined up? I'm actually returning to the motherland on 28th August to play for Fuse which i'm really looking forward to. It's probably been the most inspiring place for me musically and this year marks my 12th consecutive year on the island... I'm nearly up there with the Bora Bora Spider Man in terms of Ibiza veterans. I'll also be heading to South America for the Christmas period which will be a nice cultural break. As we mentioned lunch boxes earlier, can you tell us what lunchbox you would have and what 4 items it would contain? Well, when I was younger I had a teenage mutant ninja turtle box, so i'll stick with that. The items would have to be a banana for brain power, my trade mark mozzarella, basil and tomato ciabatta, a cheeky capri sun and not forgetting my ba ba ba ba baby bell... yummy! On that note, who is your favourite turtle? And why? Micahelangelo all day long, he's an absolute dude! Cowabunga! Rumour has it you're a bit of a splinter fan on the quiet?
